Bulk Buying

How to Buy Bulk at Three Rivers Market (And Why You’ll Love It)
If you’ve ever peeked into the bulk section at Three Rivers Market and thought, “What do I even do here?”—don’t worry, you’re not alone. Buying in bulk might seem intimidating at first, but it’s actually one of the easiest, most sustainable, and cost-effective ways to shop. Once you get the hang of it, you might never go back to pre-packaged!
Step 1: Bring (or Grab) a Container
If you’ve got clean, reusable containers from home—bring ’em! Glass jars, cloth bags, old takeout containers—it’s all fair game. If not, we’ve got compostable paper bags and reusable jars available right in the bulk aisle.
Pro Tip: If you’re using your own container, head to the register first to get the tare weight (that’s the weight of your empty container). That way, we only charge you for what you fill it with!
Step 2: Fill with What You Need
Browse our bins filled with pantry staples like rice, beans, nuts, dried fruit, spices, coffee, flour and more!
Scoop or pour exactly how much you need—no waste, no pressure to buy a full package.
Just be sure to only take what you’re sure you’ll purchase. Items scooped from bins cannot be returned to the container for safety reasons, so fill carefully!
Step 3: Write the PLU
Every bin has a PLU (Price Look-Up) number—write that number clearly on your bag or container using the pens and twist ties provided. This helps our cashiers get you checked out smoothly and quickly.
