22nd January

Congratulations to the new officers for the Three Rivers Market Board for 2014. They are: Chair, Kim Davis; Vice-Chair, John Ledbetter; and Secretary/Treasurer, Allyn Richardson. These officers will be joining our new Board members (Fiona McAnally, Jill Mikucki, and Dave Penegar), General Manager Jacqueline Arthur, and numerous other food cooperative representatives from our region at Cooperative Board Leadership Development classes in Asheville, NC at the end of January. The purpose of this training is to gain a shared understanding of effective governance strategies that will enhance the store’s growth and positive impact in our community.

As always, we welcome your thoughts and ideas in advancing TRM’s vision! Members are welcome to attend the board meetings or you may email us at board@threeriversmarket.coop.

Attracting and electing a dedicated Board of Directors ensures inspired leadership and a solid connection with our membership. This year’s top-notch field of applicants, including Bill Collins and Jessica Brewton-Turnbough, attests to East Tennessee’s growing involvement in TRM’s long-term vision and global Ends:

“Three Rivers Market, a cooperative center of sustainable commerce, exists to benefit its members by creating and nourishing a healthier environment, healthier people, and a healthier community.”

Following this year’s strong election turnout, the current Board is poised to smoothly and cohesively bridge the interests of members with the talents of management for a healthier Knoxville. We encourage all members and future Board candidates to stay involved!

This blog represents an opportunity for the Board to communicate with the Three Rivers Market community. And what a community it is! The beautiful new store has been open for just over a year, sales have been great, and we have a bunch of new members.

As you may or may not know, the Board is not involved in the day-to-day operations of the store. We practice something called Policy Governance. That means that the Board delegates store management to the General Manager, and we focus on big-picture items like compliance with policies and the future of … Read More »
