What is a CSA
The Benefits of Community Supported Agriculture
In a world where convenience often overshadows connection, Community Supported Agriculture (CSA) offers something refreshingly real: a way to reconnect with your food, your farmers, and your local community.
Whether you’re a seasoned market shopper or just starting to explore where your food comes from, a CSA can be a powerful step toward healthier eating, sustainable agriculture, and a stronger sense of place. But what exactly is a CSA—and why are so many people joining?
How Does It Work?
-
Sign Up Early
CSA members commit before the growing season begins. This early financial support helps farmers buy seeds, tools, and cover early-season costs. -
Get Weekly (or Biweekly) Boxes
Each week during the growing season (often 15–20 weeks), members receive a box of freshly harvested produce—whatever is in peak condition at the time. -
Enjoy Variety & Seasonality
Boxes often include a wide range of vegetables, herbs, and sometimes fruit, eggs, or flowers. You’ll discover new ingredients and cook with what’s truly in season.
Why Join a CSA?
1. Unmatched Freshness
Your food is harvested shortly before pickup—often within hours. You can taste the difference in every bite.
2. Support Local Farmers
Your membership provides financial stability to small farms, helping them plan and grow sustainably.
3. Eat Seasonally (and Try New Things)
From heirloom tomatoes to purple kohlrabi, CSA boxes push you to expand your kitchen horizons. Many CSA farms also include recipes or cooking tips.
4. Reduce Your Carbon Footprint
Less transportation, less packaging, and fewer emissions. Local food is better for the planet.
Pickup or Delivery Options
Many farms offer multiple pickup locations—like farmers markets, co-ops, churches, or direct from the farm. Some even offer home delivery in select areas.
