WELLNESS UPDATE

Magnesium is having a moment. Sales for magnesium products have increased dramatically at Three Rivers Market over the past three years. Magnesium is a mineral that plays a vital role in hundreds of bodily functions including energy production, regulation of nerve and muscle function, supporting strong bones, a healthy immune system and a steady heartbeat to name a few.

There are several forms of magnesium available and each are thought to have their own specialized benefits. Below are the most popular forms offered at Three Rivers Market.

Magnesium citrate – considered a good option for those who experience occasional constipation as it draws water into the intestines, softens stool and increases bowel movements.

Magnesium glycinate – is a combination of magnesium and the amino acid glycine and is considered a highly absorbable form of magnesium that is thought to promote relaxation, improve anxiety and stress and support better sleep.

Magnesium malate – is a combination of magnesium and malic acid and is thought to be good for energy production, combating fatigue, muscle pain and fibromyalgia.

Magnesium threonate – a form of magnesium that can cross the blood-brain barrier and is thought to benefit stress and anxiety and to improve mood, sleep and overall cognitive function.

It is best to consult with a healthcare professional to determine which form of magnesium and dosage is optimal for you as well as to ensure that there are no contraindications with any existing medications that you may be taking.

Loveless Cafe Products Now at the Co-op!

The historic Loveless Cafe was established in 1951 when Lon and Annie Loveless first served biscuits and fried chicken out the front door of their home on the outskirts of Nashville, Tennessee. Located on Highway 100, which was then the main route between Nashville and Memphis, the Cafe quickly grew in popularity.

Soon they converted their home into a restaurant. Lon’s country hams, smoked just behind the Cafe, and Annie’s homemade preserves were added to the menu. Motel rooms were built to welcome weary travelers, but eventually modern interstates re-routed traffic, so in 1985 the motel rooms were converted to retail shops.

Today, the Loveless Cafe serves more than half a million guests a year who enjoy the world-famous, scratch-made biscuits, fried chicken, and BBQ pulled pork, which is still smoked at the Cafe. The retail shops continue to offer hams and jams along with authentic southern pantry products, gift baskets and much more! Featured frequently on television shows and in the media, the many tastes and traditions of the Loveless Cafe have found a dedicated following around the globe.

We are proud to be carrying their biscuit mix and pancake mix!

NOURISHING CHANGE

Battlefield Farm is an urban farm with a mission to transform the community’s relationship with land and food in East Knoxville’s underserved communities.

Objective:

To raise $7,000 to go directly towards retrofitting a recently acquired beverage truck to transform it into a mobile grocery store serving residents in East Knoxville, specifically the 37915 area.

This zip code is a USDA-designated food swamp- for every healthy option, there are four unhealthy options available.

With the closing of Save-A-Lot, the only grocery store in the area, access to fresh produce is more imperative than eve

This month we would like to share a recap of our 4th Annual Member Picnic; an invitation to attend a meeting in August or September and apply to run for the Board; and an invitation to TRM Talk, a series of informal opportunities for members to talk with representatives of the Board.
