WELLNESS UPDATE

Have you heard the buzz surrounding shilajit but are unsure what it is or what it is used for?

If so, you are not alone. Shilajit is a resinous, tar-like substance that develops over centuries by the decomposition of plants in high mountain ranges.  Shilajit is rich in fulvic acid which studies have shown to have antioxidant as well as anti-inflammatory properties.  Shilajit is commonly used to boost the immune system, to increase testosterone and to help prevent cognitive decline among many other uses.

Three Rivers Market offers shilajit from Black Lotus, a family-owned business located in Florida that sources directly from the Altai mountains of Siberia. Each batch of Black Lotus shilajit is third party tested for heavy metals, microbiological safety, and authenticity.  This high quality and reliable shilajit comes in various forms including pure resin, tablet, tincture or in a base of raw honey.

As always, consult with a healthcare professional before using any supplement.

Hi members! I’m Phil, and I have recently joined Three Rivers as the ordering manager for our beer section. Thank you so much to everyone who responded to our Beer Survey; I’m excited to curate our selection, and having feedback from the community will be a big help. I’d like to take a moment to let you know what changes I have already made, and how I plan to incorporate your suggestions in the future.

First of all, it is very clear that local and regional brands are a high priority for most members, and that makes me very happy. We have an incredible selection of craft beverages in our region, and I love having the opportunity to feature them at Three Rivers. I have rearranged our beer coolers to reflect this: local and regional brands have been grouped together in the same areas, and all together they represent at least 50% of the total space. I plan to add more variety to the local section as well, so keep an eye out for new options in the near future.

The second most common request in the survey was to expand our selection of non-alcoholic (N/A) beverages. Alcohol consumption is overall trending down in America for a variety of reasons, and I’m happy to give customers options that reflect this. I have also grouped (most) of our NA brands on their own shelves, and I will diversify that section as well. In my opinion we are currently overstocked with hop water and a single brand of NA beer, and I’d like to add more options as soon as possible.

The last common themes were related to pricing and rotating stock. As far as pricing goes, I recognize that our prices are generally higher than other stores. I will do my best to provide a range of products that include more budget-friendly options without relying too heavily on mass-produced macro brands. I also hope to alleviate some frustration around our singles cooler by adding price tags for each product. Finally, I am excited to rotate our stock seasonally and bring some interesting variety of styles into the mix. Everyone has different tastes, and I’ll do my best to provide light and malty beers, classic styles, hoppy ales, sours, and gluten-free options. I will try to find a good balance between providing fresh new options and preventing the section from becoming too chaotic.

Thank you for taking the time to let me introduce myself, and I appreciate your support!

OCTOBER’S
NOURISHING CHANGE

In October we will be collecting change to help support Knox County Community Gardens & Growers Alliance, which is fighting food insecurity and trying to eliminate the 18 food deserts in Knox County.

The Alliance’s mission is to serve and support community gardens and growers in Knox County so they can better address and eliminate food insecurity in our community.

Objective:

To raise $7,000 to support the Alliance’s staff in empowering and building the capacity of local grassroots organizations to produce and distribute affordable and accessible fresh produce; to educate and introduce our youth to gardening and eating fresh vegetables for healthier lives through its youth garden education program (YGEP), and to connect community gardens and growers in Knox County so that they are better able to provide and promote healthy food choices and healthier lives.

It’s National Co-op Month, and we would like to share what this means to the Board of Directors.
